One last shower

I was lucky enough to have all of the people of Papersnaps.com throw me a lovely baby shower last week!  It was a surprise to me and was very kind of them all to do so.  We had a delicious lunch that was catered in.  And it was followed by some tasty cupcakes from a local bakery.  I was then showered with some lovely gifts.  One of them being a beautiful little table to go beside my rocking chair in the nursery.  My co-workers husband built the table for me and it is just perfect.  Home made gifts are always the best!  As well as this table she also got me a cute little outfit with lamb feet and socks and mittens to match, and two super soft baby blankets.   Someone else gave me some adorable swaddling blankets from Pottery Barn that are unbelievably soft.  And another great gift was a frog pod.  Which is this handy little toy collector and holder for the bathtub.  It’s super cute and I know will make bath time cleanup a snap.  I have had such great people surround me here at work this entire pregnancy.  I am very thankful for how sensitive and understanding they have all been.  And it hasn’t been just at work but everyone in my life has been so great to me this entire time.  It’s hard to believe that Amelia is due in just 7 days.  The time has absolutely flown by and it has truly been a great pregnancy.  I am so excited for what the future holds and will keep everyone posted on when Amelia decides to arrive!

Nursery Complete!

Our nursery is finally complete!  We spent a lot of time and energy on this room and I just hope that Amelia likes it as much as we do.  It’s funny because she won’t even be living in there the first few months of her life, but I was adament about making sure it was complete before she comes home.  I really want everything to be perfect in our house before the baby arrives, I guess it’s a nesting thing they say.  My husband worked diligently on the room as I bossed him around, I am thankful that he has so much patience with me.  The most difficult task in the room was definitely hanging the tree branches.  We cut them down from trees in our yard and my husband spray painted them white.  I bought some faux flowers and cut tiny holes in the centers of the blossoms and placed them up and down on each branch.  When they were finally complete, we spent many hours lining them up to come out of the wall and hang just right from the ceiling.  We used fishing wire to hang them from the ceiling and a thumb tack like nail to insert them into the wall.  After they were hung I also fastened some small birds on a couple of the branches for an added touch.  They turned out exactly as I imagined and we are both very proud of this project!  Here is a photo for you to see for yourself.  Don’t mind our dog Moe, he loves that little rug in her room.

Running my way to the end

One thing that has really helped me throughout my pregnancy is that I’m still staying active and working out.  I’ve always run and worked out, so I just kept it up and didn’t let my pregnancy stop me.  Of course I have to be careful and had to change a few things in my workout for the safety of my baby.  Instead of lifting weights and doing push-ups and sit-ups, I bought this great pregnancy workout dvd called, The Perfect Pregnancy Workout, and it really has been!  I recommend this video to all women who are pregnant or even trying to get pregnant.  The instructor is Karyne Steben, a world-class acrobat formerly with Cirque du Soleil.  It focuses on strength training exercises using your own body weight.  It also incorporates many moves that will benefit you before, during and after labor.  I’m thinking of keeping it up even after the big day because I love the way I feel afterward and the results have been amazing.  I have fallen in love with this dvd and make sure I do it atleast 3 times a week.

In addition to this great dvd, I have kept up running about 3 miles a day, 5-6 days a week.  Of course I have had to decrease my speed and listen to my body when I get any aches, pains or shortness of breath (which is very rarely).  Since I ran before I was pregnant it was perfectly okay for me to keep it up during my pregnancy.  I have been running on a treadmill, because  I just don’t quite trust myself outdoors.  Pregnant women usually get a little off balance once their bellies get larger, and I have actually fallen three times just when I’m walking the dog.  So you have to be extra careful about running outside if you choose to do so.  Not to brag some more, but I also walk 2 miles a day thanks to my little dog Moe!  I have been feeling great throughout my pregnancy (besides the sickness the first couple of months) but I ran through this and it definitely helped.  I feel great everyday and give all the credit to my running, walking, and the amazing workout dvd.  I never take naps or feel extra tired like so many pregnant women complain about, and I get so much done after work and on the weekends.  I recommend every pregnant woman to stay as active as possible to get through your pregnancy.  It has been my saving grace and has absolutely made this time fly by.  I am now 34 weeks along and still feeling wonderful.  I plan to keep up my running and workouts until the day I go into labor, God willing!

The Wonder of Technology!

Yesterday we we’re lucky enough to get another sonogram of Amelia!  My husband travels quite a bit for work, so he flew home for the day for a meeting and to be at the appointment.  I was very thankful that he could be here for it.  It is such a treat to be able to see your baby on a tv screen.  I loved seeing her moving around and especially to see her little heart beating.  The sonographer was so sweet and explained every little thing that we were seeing.  Of course she reassured us that she is still a girl, which I can’t imagine if she would have said otherwise!  Amelia is almost 3.5 lbs now and everything measured right on target for our due date.  After she took all of the measurements she needed, she noticed that Amelia was in the perfect position to get some 3D photos.  She kindly flipped a switch and voila there was Amelia, looking so sweet as she was sleeping.  It was unbelievably surreal to see her round little face, lips, eyes, nose…  It brought tears to my eyes to see her this way.  I was used to the sonogram where she doesn’t actually look like a baby, so to see her this way was simply amazing!  Words can’t do it justice to explain how I felt when I first saw her.  Technology is a wonderful thing.  I can’t imagine what it will be like when I get to hold her and feel the warmth of her touch.  Luckily I only have 9 weeks to wait.  In the meantime I have a precious photo to look at until that day comes!

Mission Nursery

We have officially started working on Amelia’s nursery.  Yes, it took a little bit longer than I would’ve liked but I think it’s going to turn out great!  We began working on it last weekend.  My husband began to sand and prime all of the furniture we are using.  We are using some old furniture of my husbands from his childhood…yes he is a collector!  We have a tall dresser, a low dresser we will use for her changing table and an old rocking chair that his great, great grandfather made.  I am thankful that he saved these pieces of furniture for all these years.  I am so excited to be using the rocking chair, it has a very special meaning to my husband and it will be perfect for rocking little Amelia to sleep.  We picked out new hardware for the dressers and he had to repair some of the drawers.  We then picked out the paint for everything.  He painted the dressers white and the rocking chair a celery/lime green.  After the furniture had dried in our garage for a few days, my husband brought it all up to her nursery and he also set up the crib (which is white too). Everything looks so good, I couldn’t be happier!  I didn’t help with the sanding, priming or painting because he was afraid for me to be around any of the fumes.  However I did clean the room, including steam cleaning the carpets and cleaning the walls.  I also had the joy of going through all of the presents and hand me downs we have received from so many great friends and family.  I separated everything by size and season and stored the things we wouldn’t be using for a while.  The items we will be using will be stored in her room this weekend, I’m hoping.   Everything is slowly starting to come together and is looking so nice.  I love all of the white furniture with this pop of green from the rocking chair.  I know it’s going to turn out just as I had imagined.  Our goal for this weekend is to pick out curtains and hang them, add another pole to the closet for all of her adorable clothes and pick out a small rug.  We are also going to begin toying with our tree idea.  Here is a photo of the rocking chair and I will post one picture each week until we have a completed nursery!  Here’s to another weekend of Mission Nursery!
