A ‘Loverly’ Bridal Shower

Black & white is a timeless and sophisticated combination, though some worry the absence of color may seem dull rather than refined. But this simple palette is anything but boring when inspired by the Ascot Racetrack scene from the classic movie-musical, My Fair Lady! In this beautiful (and hilarious) scene, the high-society attendees at the opening day race are costumed entirely in black and white. Keep your party equally posh by issuing a black & white dress code. Encourage enormous hats and fancy fascinators for the proper upscale ambiance. (Guests can also DIY a fascinator with this P.S. I Made This tutorial!) Spray painted horses are delightful as unexpected table decor, and bows made of black & white striped ribbon, mimicking the trim on Eliza Doolittle’s iconic dress, are striking on a white cake. Serve guests a “cuppa tea” or coffee in elegant china along with dessert, and send them home with lots of chocolates in a beautifully wrapped box!

Classic Cobalt Wedding

Since the first glimpse of Kate Middleton’s lovely sapphire engagement ring, the royal hue has been on the rise. And with Pantone’s selection of Monaco Blue as a 2013 trending color, it would be no surprise to see bold blues surface during this summer’s wedding season. Inspired by classic French china, cobalt and white is the perfect combination for a relaxed country chic wedding. A ruffled cobalt dress with a white bouquet is a pretty bridesmaid look, while groomsmen sport cobalt ties for a pop of color against summery grey suits. A trendy druzy bracelet is a perfect bridesmaid gift, or a small “something blue” for the bride! Add rustic charm to your reception venue with centerpieces made from blue glass bottles filled with freshly picked wildflowers. Encourage guests to take one as they leave! Serve a selection of desserts (such as the mini meringue tarts pictured below) on various blue glass cake stands and the refreshment table is sure to be a hit!

A Very Gatsby Wedding

With a Great Gatsby remake arriving in theaters in May 2013, and shows like Boardwalk Empire and Downton Abbey making headlines in entertainment news, 1920s fashion has also experienced a renaissance. Drop-waist dresses, intricate beading, and lots of metallics have made it into many modern closets, as well as many modern weddings. Brides who favor this era in fashion will have no trouble finding Art Deco inspired items to include in their big day. Choose a fitted, classic silk gown reminiscent of old Hollywood starlets, while your bridesmaids wear beaded flapper-style dresses. Opt for an elaborate headpiece rather than a veil to complete the Jazz Age look. A tiered cake with classic Art Deco designs will certainly be a highlight at the reception, while a popular drink from the time served in simple silver rimmed glasses adds an authentic historical touch. Make your reception getaway in a vintage car from the era to add to the ambiance of the event.

Glittery Pink and Gold Bridal Shower

Much to the enjoyment of adult females everywhere, glitter shoes and sequined sweaters are no longer a relic of the eighties. The sparkly duo has permeated Pinterest with a wealth of DIY projects, outfit inspirations, and a slew of gilded wedding cakes. The ultra-feminine combination of pink and gold has been trending for weddings, but if you don’t want your big day to be overly girly, save it for the shower instead! (Bonus: you can use all the glitter you want since there will be no men present to complain!) Glittery gold candlesticks topped with pink flowers make wonderful centerpieces – these are also an easy DIY and something you may want to keep around after the party ends! Serve pink macarons with gold leaf detail for a fancy treat, and a pink champagne cocktail with gold stir sticks. Add some sparkle to your outfit and capitalize on the raw gemstone trend with gold druzy stud earrings. Send your guests home with party poppers full of little candies and confetti. It will be a soirée they won’t soon forget!

Ever since Angelina Jolie wore a pair of stunning emerald earrings to the 2009 Oscars, the classic gem has been on the rise. As Pantone’s 2013 Color of the Year, emerald is everywhere! We love the rich jewel tone, especially when paired with a softer mint hue. It’s bright, bold, and unexpected – so perfect for spring! Dress your bridesmaids in mint while the groomsmen sport emerald bow ties for a bit of contrast among the wedding party wear. A pair of lovely little aquamarine studs is great for a visible yet understated “something blue” for the bride! Fill blue, green, and clear glass bottles with simple greens or baby’s breath for fresh springtime centerpieces. An emerald cake is breathtaking sitting atop a white stand; simple frosting petals is all the decoration you need with such a bold color.
