Black & white is a timeless and sophisticated combination, though some worry the absence of color may seem dull rather than refined. In this beautiful (and hilarious) scene, the high-society attendees at the opening day race are costumed entirely in black and white. Spray painted horses are delightful as unexpected table decor, and bows made of black & white striped ribbon, mimicking the trim on Eliza Doolittle’s iconic dress, are striking on a white cake. And with Pantone’s selection of Monaco Blue as a 2013 trending color, it would be no surprise to see bold blues surface during this summer’s wedding season. Inspired by classic French china, cobalt and white is the perfect combination for a relaxed country chic wedding. A ruffled cobalt dress with a white bouquet is a pretty bridesmaid look, while groomsmen sport cobalt ties for a pop of color against summery grey suits. A trendy druzy bracelet is a perfect bridesmaid gift, or a small “something blue” for the bride! Colorful Coral and Grey Wedding

The beginning of 2013 brought with it the beginning of a new wedding color trend: coral and grey. Since the coral spectrum includes everything from orange-tinged peach to pink-hued salmon, there are a wide variety of color combinations. Let bridesmaids choose a dress in their favorite “coral” for a mismatched look, while the groomsmen wear light grey suits. Tiny rose studs are great for a small bridesmaid gift, or for a pop of color for the bride on the big day! Inviting guests to a costume ball wedding

When your guests get their wedding invitations, they’ll look to it for information about what they should wear. An invite can give a subtle hint, or can say outright what sort of dress code you’ll have on your big day.

If you’re asking your guests to come in a very specific type of clothing, you’ll need to make that very clear in your invitation. While having a formal black tie wedding might require you to give plenty of advance warning, you might need to give even more if you want your guests to show up in costume.

We’ve seen some great theme weddings, including a flamboyant costume ball, a gothic Halloween theme, and a retro rockabilly party, and each one has made it clear in the invitation. It’s a courtesy for guests, as it gives them plenty of time to prepare. It can also give you the freedom to have a very creative invitation design, which can show guests that your wedding will be something other than the normal.

Planning your wedding invitations

With your big day coming up and other matters still to plan, how can you be sure you have enough time to choose your wedding invites and, more crucially, that you get the right invites in the first place?

You’ll want invites which say something about you and your groom as well as being a bit unique and creative. Well, here’s some ways to make that happen:

Timing. Make sure you give yourself plenty of time for allocating space for your invites. You’ll have to choose a design and materials, write up a guest list, source addresses and work out the postage. No inconsiderable task
Keep it simple. No need to get carried away and produce an invite that’s over-the-top. Two fonts are all that’s needed, maximum.
Paper. Get samples so you’ll know exactly what a certain thickness of paper feels like. Choose your invite design first though as this will dictate your choice of paper eg if you’re going to fold the invites then you’ll need a more flexible and lighter paper

Inject some humor into your invites

Just because you’re having a traditional wedding, it doesn’t mean your invitations have to go down the same road and follow suit.

Why not go for some humor? Customized funny wedding invitations are great for showing off both your and your groom’s sense of humor and the guests will love them. Some ideas are:

Tell your own love story on your invitation. Write down how you met and then dated, what the proposal was like etc.

Use characters – either cartoon or icons which relate to you and your partner (this is becoming a bigger trend than you might imagine).

Get inspired by your favorite movie. Parody a big selling movie. Use that movie’s poster and transplant your own face and that of your groom.

Get Your Invites Organized For Your Big Day

Putting together a wedding invitation can actually be rather tricky. That’s because it can involve a number of inserts – all of which have to go in the same envelope. RSVP cards and separate reception cards tend to be the order of the day with directions, maps etc often sent separately.

The invitation and enclosures should be inserted so that the person opening the envelope will find them print-side up. The enclosures can go either on top of the invitation or inside it. If using a wedding invitation with multiple folds, the enclosures go inside the first fold, with the printed side facing up.

Enclosures are placed on top of the invitation in order of importance with the most important invites on the bottom and the least important ones on the top.
